1,000 illegal immigrants flee Egypt to Algeria

More than 1,000 Egyptian people travelled to Algeria illegally looking for job this year. All of them were repatriated while about 200 of them are accused of counterfeiting and drugs, according to security forces.

• Studies on illegal immigration show that some of the Egyptian illegal immigrants are on the run. Others have diplomas and were dreaming of finding a job in Algeria.

• They wanted to flee misery, poverty, unemployment and marginalisation. Most of them tried to reach Algeria across Tunisia and Libya.

• Those marginalised people pay all the money they save from working in workshops in their country to go to Algeria as it is the easiest place to reach Europe from. Once security forces catch them, they take them to detention centres where they get food and medical care.
