12.000 Cars Transferred to Europe after being Rejected by Jijel Port

Representatives of a number of agents of imported cars, which imported various global European and Asian car brands , complained the authorities’ decision to prevent the entry of ships carrying 12.000 new cars to the port of Jijel (eastern Algeria), on the grounds that there is no place for cars and lack of space, causing a change in the points of ships to the port of Italy and Spain, ‭ ‬which means that thousands of citizens will continue waiting for their cars‭. ‬

Commercial director of SIMA company, Rachid Merah, told Echorouk; “The company was importing about 4,500 cars from China on board of a ship, and when it arrived at the port of Jijel and without prior notice, they were surprised of preventing the entry of the ship, and because the legal traditions required banning the ships to remain at sea for a period of time, authorities imposed on us to find a place to discharge the load, which forced us to transfer the cars on board of the ship to another destination, so we were obliged to change the ships’ point to the Port of Spain, which will cause large losses to the company, plus the more than citizens wait for the arrival of their cars, the more his will cause a loss to the company and will distort its reputation”‭. ‬

Over 7500 cars, which were imported from Europe and Asia, were transfered to the port of Italy, due to the same problem, which results in the problem of renting another ship to transport cars once more from the Western Europe to Algeria, and of course, if any place to receive these cars is available in the port of Jijel.

The representative of SIMA company Rachid Merrah added; “It is not the first time the officials of Jijel cause losses for the companies of cars import, as at the end of March, the officials of the same port and under the same argument, ie, (there is no place for cars), they have moved cars to Libya despite the degraded security conditions ‭there, as they were parked in Libya fore two whole months, as the number of ‭cars reached over ‭600 cars”‭. ‬
