12 Algerian illegal immigrants reach Spain

A total of 12 Algerian illegal immigrants including a girl left a beach in the province of Oran (west of Algiers) last week and reached the Spanish city of Almeria, Echorouk has learnt.

• The illegal immigrants who were on zodiac arrived at an isolated forest and walked to Almeria, according to the same sources.
• A year ago, some 20 Algerian illegal immigrants living in popular areas in western Algeria reached Spain on two fishing boats starting from a beach in Oran.
• Spanish authorities arrested them and put them in a detention centre pending for their deportation to Algeria.
• The 20 illegal immigrants called their families a week after they had reached Spain, telling them their plan was successful.
• They included a handicapped man who threw his wheelchair in the beach to reach Europe. However, Spanish security forces found them and put them in a detention centre pending for their deportation to Algeria. This procedure takes a long time as most of the illegal immigrants destroy their identity cards so that authorities would not identify them.
