130.000 gendarmes and soldiers to secure the Algerian borders with Libya
The Algerian Defense Ministry ordered on Sunday all the military regions and commanders of the National Gendarmerie to take exceptional security measures by increasing the number of men to monitor the southern and eastern borders, in order to tighten control on the movements of AQIM terrorists and trafficking cells following the recent developments in Libya, security sources told Echorouk.
The same sources added that the defense ministry asked the security services in charge of controlling the Algerian borders with Libya to deploy more than 130.000 soldiers and gendarmes, and reinforce them with units of armored vehicles backed by attack helicopters and Special Forces, to patrol the area and prevent terrorist sneaking and smuggling calls infiltration, especially cells of arms trafficking which exploit the state of war in Libya to penetrate the Algerian borders and make it an important transit for the terrorist groups to smuggle arms towards the Sahel countries.
The security sources asserted that they are in alert in the Algerian borders with Libya, especially in the points of contact with El Oued (South of Algeria) and Tebessa (East of Algeria), since Sunday, fearing the infiltration of armed people who escape from Tripoli detentions and its suburbs, as similar to what happened in the barracks in the western entrance of Tripoli, where a large number of arms and war ammunition were taken.
