15 Algerian Prisoners in Iraq at Risk of Execution, Activists

At least 15 Algerian prisoners in Iraq are believed to be in the list of people to be executed by the local Justice.

In fact, hundreds of family members of Tunisian prisoners detained in Iraq marked a sit in near the headquarters of the Premiere, in Tunis the capital, to urge the government saving the life of their dears, as authorities there have started a series of executions against prisoners.

Echorouk reporter present on the spot met an Algerian family among the Tunisian protesters, lifting a banner written on it: “Iraqi prisons are worst than Guantanamo!”

Ahmed Harireche, the father, said his son Youcef, has been missing since 2006. “We’ve been informed by Tunisian friends that our son is detained in Kazimia prison with his friend Zaid Mohammed Hadi, since 2006, while Algeria Foreign Ministry keeps telling us that Youcef had immigrated illegally to France or Italy.”

The panic among families of Tunisian and Algerian prisoners was provoked by the execution of Tunisian prisoner Yasri Teriki. “The turn would come on our sons,” cried Ahmed Harireche, deploring “the indifference of the government,” saying “We want our sons back home safe and sound!”

However, president of Families of Tunisian Prisoners in Iraq, Halima Khaldi, told Echerouk reporter that the Iraqi Justice executed Tunisian prisoner Yasri Teriki, although Iraqi PM al-Maliki promised to Ennahda leader, Rachid al-Ghanouchi, to release all the Tunisian prisoners.

The turn will likely come on the other prisoners, including Algerians, Egyptians, Moroccans and Tunisians, the official added.

15 Algerians are detained in different prisons OF Iraq since 2007.
