16 foreigners converted to Islam in Algeria

A total of 16 people from different European nationalities have converted to Islam since mid-year 2008 in the province of Guelma (east of Algiers), according to the religious affairs department.

• A 31-year-old man convinced two French women and a French man in visiting Algeria where they embraced Islam.
• Michelle, 58, was one of them. She knew the Algerian man on the Internet and met him by chance in Guelma last summer.
• The event was celebrated in a mosque where the three French people mentioned Shahada amid acclamations and happy tears.
