17600 Students Involved in Violent Acts With the Use of Flick Knives, Report
Student parent associations have rung the alarm as for the exacerbation of drug consummation and violence with the use of white arms, including flick knives, within schools.
About 17645 under 16 students, the majority of whom enrolled at high schools, were involved in violent fights with the use of knives in education institutions in 2011, concluded a report conducted by Ministry of Education.
2899 students offended violently their teachers, were either excluded or referred to another schools, after being heard by the disciplinary council.
In primary schools, 201 pupils were involved in violent acts against their teachers, the report shows, while the majority of violent cases occurred in high schools, where 1455 students were involved.
However, the report does not mention the causes fueling such violence, but the head of the national federation for student parents, Ahmed Khaled, assumes that many students have been used by drug traffickers.
“Drug traffickers have been exploiting students and made of them dealers within schools in exchange of money and iphones, and the greatest irony is that some traffickers hide narcotic inside bags of primary school pupils in exchange for some sweets, in order to mislead police detectives,” Mr Khaled deplored.
Yet, Mr Farhat Menaoui, a member at the Secondary and Technical Teachers Union, shouldered the responsibility to the parents of the students, “as it is up to them to control their sons before they leave home; and it’s unacceptable that a student who is supposed to go to school to learn, carries with him flick knives!”
