20,000 Algerians Were Granted EU Citizenship Within A Year

Algeria ranked 10th globally and second in the Arab world, as the largest community of people who obtain the citizenship of European Union countries for the year 2017, by 20.146 people, in a ranking that was topped by the Moroccan nationals with more than 67.000 naturalized persons in 2017.

The European Institute of Statistics (EUROSTAT) said in a report that was published on Tuesday, July 23, 2019, which copy is available to Echorouk, that the Algerian nationals came rank 10th in the world in terms of the number of people who obtained nationalities of the European Union, 80.8% of them obtained French citizenship, totaling 16.283 naturalized, and this is due to the great concentration of the Algerian community in France.

Italian citizenship was obtained by 1152 Algerians representing 5.7%, Spanish with 979 (4.9%), and 334 in the United Kingdom and 3.1 in Belgium.

Algeria ranks second in the Arab world behind Morocco, which nationals received 67,848 nationalities, 33.4% in Italy, 25.2 in Spain and 24.6 in France.

The list includes Syria in third place in the Arab world and 14 worldwide, and 13.515 Syrian citizens in the European nationalities were distributed between 63.9% who obtained the Swedish citizenship and 18.3% obtained the German one.

In the fourth place in the Arab world and 16 in the overall ranking, 12,551 Tunisians received European nationalities, mostly in France (56.1%) and Italy (25.4%).

The Iraqis ranked fifth in the Arab world and 18 in the world. 11,158 of them received European nationalities. They were distributed among Germany with 30.2 %, Sweden (28.4%), the Netherlands 12.1%, Belgium 8.1%, and other European countries.
