20,000 prisoners attend class in Algeria
Algerian justice minister Tayeb Belaiz said the law will be implemented on the case of former leader of the Armed Islamic Group (GIA) Hassan Hattab as any other Algerian citizen.

“Hattab is like any other Algerian. The law will be implemented on him,” he said.

The minister also said 20,000 prisoners attend class in various education levels. Of them, 694 are in college.

“A total of 4,000 prisoners were reintegrated in cociety after their release.”

Belaiz added that more than 20 prisoners are benefiting from vocational training through 131 institutions in the country.

A total of 42.39 percent of prisoners passed the baccalaureate exam this year while 44.49 percent were successful in the BEM exams.
