Nobody knows the real drives that pushed him to flee the living and seek refuge among the dead where there is no injustice.

  •
  •
  • Douichen has chosen to live among the dead in a cemetery in the province of Tebessa (Far East Algeria) where he takes his shower and converses with his dead neighbors. Fares didn’t choose a main street or a luxurious building or even a park to live in, but he resorted to dwell in a cemetery and is quite happy with his situation. In a declaration to “Echorouk” he said “ No one from the living cared about me, so I turned  to the dead”.
  • He lives there since 1984, the date where his mother passed away while he was 7 years old. He and his two brothers went through hard times till the day when his step mother, kicked them out of the family house to end up like vagabonds.
  • Fares spent 25 years in the cemetery, he ‘s got the eeriest address  in Algeria, for those who want to see him they have only to read “ Sidi Kherif cemetery” .  “ I smell security and safety there is no fear , may be freezing temperatures in winter and scorching ones in summer” he says.
  • The young man was talking with bitterness in his voice; he was a living- dead, as he put it to “Echorouk”w aht happened to his family was beyond imagination, being jobless he is  unable to rent a house and is fed by  good will people , sometimes he keeps watch over the cars of a bank clients in the neighborhood.
  • With a sad voice he added “ I’m the only one who will buried in my living place”. He hesitated but added “ I will tell to my two brothers to bury me among the living to turn upside down the equation” . His situation is not strange to the local authorities regardless of their political parties but nothing was done to change his life experience.
  • Fares cried so many times and declared “Let me her in the cemetery , because I died the day the peoples’ heart died “
