Number of staff who received less than the minimum wage in Algeria estimated to 12.000 dinars reached more than 400.000 workers in the public sector. Their salaries do not exceed 8.000 dinars, representing about the quarter of the total number of workers in this service.

Despite the improvements witnessed recently in the Algerian minimum wages, after a series of meetings between the central trade union and government, there is still a large number of the citizens who live under the poverty line because of the low monthly incomes which do not correspond with the high prices of the various products, particularly foodstuffs.

Noting that the salary may improve or slump each time the worker moved to another class, but the salaries never exceed 9.000 dinars monthly”, General Secretary of the National Union of the Algerian Workers Belkacem Felfoule said.
