48 people suffers from unknown disease in Algeria beaches

About 48 people experienced Friday shortness of breath, fever, runny nose and mouth and eyes redness in Ain Timouchent province (west of Algiers) while 160 went to hospital amid fears that a foreign commercial ship unloaded waste and oil in beaches.

  •
  • Press attaché at the province said doctors notified local authorities about a possible contamination of unidentified disease.
  • “The prefect went to the hospital and gave instructions to look after the affected people and set up a commission,” he told Echorouk on the phone.
  • “The situation is under control,” he added.
  • The affected people were examined and left hospital while one man is still under medical care.
  • The prefect assigned a special commission to take samples from suspicious beaches and send them to Oran’s regional laboratory western Algiers, according to the same source.
  • He ordered to ban swimming in those beaches until the laboratory tests are known.
