50 thousand farmers counted out of the president’s decision

The National Chamber of Agriculture chairman Mohammed Cherif Ould Lhoucine has revealed that 50 thousands farmers countrywide were excluded from the president’s plan to write off the farmers’ debts, though members of this chamber.

• Talking in the French radio program “ the newsroom’s guest” Ould Lhoucine reported the president’s words saying” I have decided to write off the farmers’ debts as well as the stock breeders and order to stop all legal procedures” ,adding “ these are the president’s words, but unfortunately let me tell you that after five months to the issue of these orders nothing has been done yet and threats to seize the farmers’ properties didn’t stop”.

• The agriculture main department ordered the banks to oblige the farmers to present a membership card plus a thorough report on their production and their financial situation as a requirement to erase their debts.

• M Lhoucine has noted “ The president took important decision to boost the sector but there are many who hamper the good proceedings of these decisions with the view to undermining this operation, we feel sorry but we demand the full implementation of the president’s decision”.

• He went on saying “ both the National Chamber and the Farmer’s Union were put aside and the operation was implemented individually with the lack of transparency… We’ de like to recall that this is not a gift but a president’s decision to solve the problems that hamper the sector’s development”.

• Ould Lhoucine has called for further procedures to encourage young people to invest in agriculture “ there are 400 thousand farmers over 50, do you want to develop agriculture with old people”.
