75% of Algerians only eat fruits
According to nutritionists, 75% of the overall Algerian population only eats fruits regularly, while the great majority ignores some types imported with hard currency from different countries.

Algeria imported 576 tons of fruits including dry ones with an amount estimated at $ 2 billions over the year 2008; while the total cost spent during the first five months of the current year has already reached $ 365 millions.

Paradoxically, the Algerian authorities import date from France, China, India and Syria supposed to be produced in these country, but generally the dates are made in Algeria and sold back to the local consumer.

Estimates released by customs services revealed that Algeria has imported the equivalent of 2.5 millions of Alegrain Dinars of lemon, 840 millions of Algerian Dinars of oranges and mandarins, 2.8 millions AD of apricots and 3 millions AD of strawberries.

Some experts have indicated that most of the Algerians eat only one fruit a week and less than 50% among them eat fruits on regular basis but this percentage doesn’t meet the universal standards which require 3 types of fruits a day.
