Armed Forces Foil a Terrorist Attack Southern Algeria

Armed terrorist group, that was on board of a four-wheel-gas project, which is located in Khechiba region, that is located between Ain Saleh and Tamanrasset, and Menia that belongs to Ghardaia (southern Algeria), attacked a gas company, which is supervised by Sonatrach, in partnership with the Norwegian Statoil, the UK British Petroleum and French Shale.

Armed forces foiled a terrorist attempt, in which terrorists used Habhab conventional shells, on the gas compound, and they repelled it and responded strongly in the region that is witnessing a tight cordon since years ago, especially after the assassination of two customs agents five years ago, in the same area that is considered a gas base.

Armed units, which were backed by troops from the fourth military region of Ouargla (southern Algeria), launched wide combing operation in the Khechiba desert, reaching Menia and Ain Saleh, in order to retrace raised the terrorists, where troops were placed on alert, not to mention the intense overflights through helicopters, to eliminate the terrorist group deep in the desert before arriving to their cache.

Previously, Maj. Gen. Abderazak Cherif, commander of the fourth military region, visited on Friday the area, with supreme officials from the armed forces, to stand on the incident.

This incident caused panic and terror among the workers, who did not believe that the attack was a terrorist, but after sunrise, and they thought that the incident was caused by a business risks, knowing that Khechiba area includes hundreds of workers of different nationalities, and is similar to the region of Tiguentourine oil base in Ain Amenas.
