“Amnesty” calls upon Algerian government to lift the ban on rallies

Amnesty International criticized the human rights situation in Algeria, at a time when it called upon Algerian government to lift the ban on rallies in the capital (Algiers), condemning the oppression against protesters over shale gas exploitation, but it expressed satisfaction with the situation women’s rights during 2014.

Amnesty International asserted, during the presentation of its annual report on human rights situation, that was organized on Wednesday in Algiers, that it recorded what it called as several violations during 2014, especially those related to the suppression of peaceful rallies that preceded the recent Legislative Elections.
Amnesty International called upon the Algerian authorities, through the head of its branch in Algeria, Younes Saadi, to lift the ban on rallies in the capital, and thinks that the situation of creating and joining associations is still noticing some “arbitrary scenes”, and gave the example of its branch in Algeria, which has not received the licence by the Interior Ministry, although it wrote to both the Prime Minister, the Foreign Minister and Interior Minister.
Human rights organization also recorded, at the international level, a large proliferation of armed groups during 2014, being present in 35 countries, and also indicated the control of two groups, which are “Beaucoup Haram” and “Daesh”, in several areas.
