Kessentini to Echourouk: I didn’t mean to harm the judges
Farouk Kessentini, the chairman of the National Advisory Committee for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights

The chairman of the National Advisory Committee for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights, Farouk Kessentini has shown his readiness to start negotiations with the public prosecutors with full respect considering them as the first advocates of human rights.

He has denied any intent to harm the prosecutors especially the head of the union Djamel Laidouni noting that he had only suggested an “idea” by his declaration.

Kessentini has reacted in a declaration made to Echourouk to harsh words launched against him by the chairman of the Algerian lawyers’ union Djamel Laidouni during a meeting held the day before yesterday her in Algiers, when he pointed at him saying  “ Who are you Kessentini to talk about the judges’ salaries”.

Kessentini replied” I’m an Algerian citizen first and a lawyer since 45 years and at last I was a former union activist in the province of Blida”.

He went on saying “ It’s is not a defect to raise the issue of salaries because we have simply raised the topic and declared that the prosecutors have benefited from pay rises which make them in shelter of any form of pressure; they have to carry out their duties in full in dependence”.
