Former military officer to Echourouk: Morocco is worsening the Malian crisis

In a interview made to Echourouk , the retired General Medjahed upheld the Algerian position concerning the Malian crisis and accuses the Moroccan authorities and Western countries of drawing benefits from the situation.

  • Excluding the eventuality of an Algerian military interference in Mali, the former commander of Cherchel military academy has asserted that the military troops will not be able to defeat the armed militias in the North African country.
  • Medjahed has indicated that the Algerian stand toward the Malian crisis has been firm since the beginning and should remain unchanged. The Algerian solution puts forward the stability and the integrity of the Malian territory.
  • This standpoint is not shared by other countries that try to spread chaos in the region for imperialistic and expansionist purposes. Among them, France which lobbies to keep its advantages in the region using military coup to topple heads of state and the last one was Ivory Coast president Lahsen Ouatara.
  • Morocco has a hand in the Malian crisis since it protects drug smugglers. The fall of the Malian state will help Morocco find outlets for drug barons outside the country. France and other western countries didn’t accept the fact that the Malian authorities gave priority to the Algerian hydrocarbons company, Sonatrach, a Mauritanian and a Chinese oil company to invest on its territory.
  • Answering to question over the probability of an Algerian military intervention in Mali, the general has indicated that this option should be excluded because it contradicts with the Algerian principles of non interference in the domestic issues of countries. The only thing that Algeria can do is to assist the Malian troops in their fight against mobs .
