Algeria and Libya NTC to Set Working Committees Ahead of Normalization
Algeria has decided normalizing its bilateral relations with the Libyan National Transitional Council, Foreign Minister, Mourad Medelci said Tuesday.
Mr Medelci, who is in New York, told the APS news agency, that the two parties have agreed to setting up joint commissions tasked with discussing bilateral issues.
“Such commissions will give bilateral relations “formal and continual character,” the minister said.
He added that “For sure, the decision of the Algerian government to work closely with the new authorities in Libya to set up a fruitful bilateral partnership would permit both countries to work together more frankly, because we’ve been holding informal and non continual contacts, so far.”
He further indicated that there are “very important challenges,” regarding the repercussions of the Libyan crisis, yet, he expressed wishes that “security to be restored there to form an inclusive government representing all components of the Libyan people.”
Mr Medelci concluded that “We are convinced that the stability of Libya is a key element in the stability of the region,” adding that “Algeria reiterates her strong willing to work immediately with the new authorities in Libya to set up an ideal and comprehensive partnership, in the frame of brotherhood and solidarity.”
