Belaiz Calls the Bar of Algiers to Dialogue over the Controversial BLJ

The Minister of Justice, Taieb Belaiz has called the members of the Bar of Algiers to dialogue over the bill of the legal job, which the Bar required withdrawing it from the Parliament.

Speaking to reporters at the sidelines of the hearing session in the Council of the Nation, Mr Belaiz said attorneys are represented by 15 bars countrywide, yet the Bar of Algiers is the only one which rejects the bill. “Well, they have the right to reject the bill, but they have to express that with peaceful means,” the minister said, adding: “I’m a man of dialogue, and dialogue is the sole mean to resolve problems.”

He further mentioned that the bill of legal job is the outcome of the work of a commission of expert attorneys and barristers, who worked for four years to draw up that consenting bill, pointing out that “in case there are disagreements on some articles, I think we can resolve the issue through dialogue within the Parliament which has the sovereignty to pass or cancel any bill.”

To recall, attorneys practicing in Algiers have organized a march on last Wednesday to urge the government withdrawing the aforementioned bill from the Parliament, saying it weakens the defense right.

As for the recent report issued by the US Department of State, which ranked Algeria in the list of human trafficking violators, Mr Belaiz said he will react to it once he receives a copy from the US authorities.
