Algeria defender Ismail Bouzid singed a two-year contract with Greek side PAS Giannina

Algerian international defender Ismael Bouzid has joined Greek side PAS Giannina on a free transfer.

The 28-year-old, who was released by Scottish side Hearts at the end of last season, signed a two-year contract.

The centre-back was linked with several clubs in Europe but he opted for PAS Giannina because of the team spirit.

“I will do my best to honour the people who chose me. I know enough about the Greek league,” Bouzid said.

“With my new team, my team-mates and myself, we will try to achieve the goals we set.

“There is a very good atmosphere in the group. “

Bouzid won acclaim for his performances throughout his two-year stay with Hearts.

The Algerian could not reach an agreement over an extension of contract with the Scottish side which resulted in his decision to leave.

He scored one goal in 58 appearances for the Edinburgh club.

PAS Giannina becomes his ninth club having played for German sides Union Berlin and Kaiserslautern.

Bouzid also played for Turkish giants Galatasary and their rivals Ankaragucu as well as Metz and Troyes in France.

The only Algerian club Bouzid has played for is Mouloudia Alger, where he had a one-year stint between 2005 and 2006.
