French coach Laurent Blanc summoned to step down over “Quotas gate”

The scandal that rattled the French Football Association, over the limitation of the number of Maghreban and colored players who would play for the French national squad, has reached a turning point.

  • Mediapart, the website that made public the scandal, has revealed three days ago overwhelming information involving various parties from the French Technical Directorate including the head coach Laurent Blanc who adopted a plan to limit the number of players from African and Maghreban origins that will be selected in the future to play in the French squad, in a move to give more opportunities to the French stock players.

  • Former players, coaches and political figures have yesterday voiced concern over this new form of xenophobia and called on the coach Laurent Blanc, commonly known “Ppresident” to step down since he endorsed the project of “ Quotas”  in the French squad.

  • Meanwhile, the French public is waiting the coming out of the football legend Zidane in his quality as the former playmaker of the 1998 world champions and also as Maghreban descent player.

  • For her part, the French sports minister Chantale Joineau has vowed to issue extreme sanctions in the light of the outcome of the underway investigation and threatened the culprits of imprisonment.

  • The first signs of racism were already visible during the former coach Raymond Domenec’s era when this one has counted out three key players from Maghreban origins and prevented them to take part to the world cup tournament in South Africa .
