Djezzy determined to remain in Algeria, says Tamer Mahdi

Chief Executive of Egypt Orascom Telecom’s most profitable unit Djezzy, Tamer Mahdi, said he is committed to maintain Djezzy in the leadership of Algerian and Arab mobile phone markets, whatever the outcome of discussions with the government would be.

  • Mr Tamer Mahdi, who was the guest of Echorouk on Monday, said Djezzy is determined to introduce the 4G technology service to Algeria, which will provide high speed internet service to companies and individuals.
  • Chief Executive of Djezzy added that his company has cleared its debts owed to taxes department, and successfully accomplished the two tax redresses, as required by the Central Bank of Algeria.
  • However, he stipulated that Djezzy is looking forward hearing from the administrative arbitration court to pronounce its decision on the conflict with the government, saying once the decision is issued the company would be legal at 100 %.
  • The company has not been affected by the difficult circumstances it was gone through, due to the football crisis between Algeria and Egypt, Mr Tamer Mahdi said, adding that he has expected that the bilateral relationships between the people of the two countries to return to normal after the revolt of Egypt’s youngsters. He concluded that the Algeria-Egypt relationships have been strongly sheltered against any potential maneuvers thanks to the solid platform resulted from the revolt.
