Interior Minister: “Municipality guards to be fired if they protest”

Algiers-Minister of the Interior and Local Authorities Dahou Ould Kablia called upon, here on Monday, municipality guards to respect their commitments as stipulated in their statutes, especially article 11, which doesn't allow such security corps to conduct collective protests that may affect order.

The article stipulates that “it is forbidden for municipality guards to launch a strike or any form of work stoppage, and any collective action, contrary to order, will be subject to sanctions under Article 112 of the Penal Code.”

The ministry underlined the measures taken in support of the body, adding that Minister of Interior and Local Authorities Dahou Ould Kablia set up, on 10 March 2011, a working group to consider the socio-professional issues, contained in the municipal guards’ 14-demand platform.

“The vast majority of municipality guards accepted the actions taken to resolve their status, but those who will continue protests will be removed from this security sector. 99% of them accepted the ministry’s measures to resolve their problems. For us there will be no discussions and no negotiations and no bidding because their acts are unacceptable”, the minister added.

“We will remove them from this sector. All the military and civil authorities think that their acts are against order in the ranks of the security services”.
