Ministerial injunction to meet the medical interns concerns

The independent group of medical interns has boycotted the meeting scheduled between the health minister Djamel Oueld Abbas and the steering committee entrusted with the elaboration of their specific status.

• The protesters, who staged a sit-in at Mustapha Bacha hospital here in Algiers that turned to a march, vowed to go on an unlimited strike as of next week in case where their requests are not fulfilled.
• Meanwhile, the health minister has promised to review the on call allowance as well as the risk and contamination ones in addition to their professional status.
• Taking the opportunity of his visit to Kouba hospital here in Algiers, the minister has invited the representatives of the medical interns to take part to the steering committee tasked with discussing their demands starting with the revision of legal status issued in 1996.
• But one of the representatives, Doctor Ben Habib Amine has indicated to Echourok that their group awes due respect to the minister and the laws of the republic, but it is unconceivable respond to a verbal invitation.
