A lawsuit against Asala
The composer Helmi Baker has filed a lawsuit against the famous Syrian artist Asala Nasri for singing the song “Ma Qoltilish Min Al Awel Leh†(Why didn’t you tell me from the beginning).
-
Baker claims that he composed the song 14 years ago and Asala has no right to sing and perform the song without his consent.
-
Asala remixed the song, making only minor changes, said Baker.
-
Asala initially performed the song in 1998 with an orchestra and now she is singing it with local groups without his consent, said Baker.
-
On other grounds, Asala will participate with the Algerian artist Shab Khaled in a musical event in Las Vegas. All proceeds from the event will be donated to Arab children in need of medical care.
- “I am happy to be part of giving to the future generations that will lead the world one day,” said Asala.
