A Spanish Bulk Rescues 11 Algerian Illegal Migrants Trapped in the Strait of Gibraltar
A Spanish bulk carrier has rescued 11 Algerian illegal migrants, including 4 underage youngsters, on board of their broken down engine boat, in the early morning of Monday, in the Strait of Gibraltar.
The local state owned EFE news agency has quoted a source within local police as saying that Carina bulk carrier crew managed to rescue 11 illegal migrants from Algeria, as they were trapped in the Strait of Gibraltar after their boat engine was broken down.
The source added the rescued youngsters have had a GPRS device, but they failed to advance to Almeria, in southern shore of Spain, as an ultimate destination, after they were taken by the strong tide to the Strait of Gibraltar.
The local police endured the 11 illegal migrants to questioning, and concluded that four of them are under 17 year old.
Some of them were suffering dehydration, while others were exhausted from the long sail trip. Seven of them were transferred to illegal migrant detention centre, in the city of Ceuta, on border with Morocco, the source concluded.
