The outgoing president Abdelaziz Bouteflika , has declared that he will not take any further decision dealing with the national reconciliation process without prior consultation of the Algerian people .

He said that taking the decision to grant an overall pardon requires a referendum, arguing that this decision is driven by his respect to the people and the process will not be at the expense of its dignity.

The president called for a sweeping victory as a basis for the third term declaring” 10 years is enough.. I don’t want to sit on a “shaky chair” hinting to the necessity to vote in masses in order to reach a record turnout as in the 2004 presidential elections.

Talking yesterday here in Algiers in the last day of the electoral campaign, M Bouteflika has declared that the recovery of peace and security were his utmost priorities “My campaign enabled me to realize the positive aspects of the national reconciliation” he said.

The independent candidate went on saying addressing the young category of people” Algeria needs new revolutions far from violence in order to build the country, and this cannot happen without security”.
