Abdelkrim Yelles: “10 Earthquakes In One Night Spread Fear In Six Provinces”
Population of Medea, Blida, Bouira, Tipaza, Algiers, and Boumerdes live a real horror and many of them left their homes at 1:00 am, after the earthquake which position was 10 kilometers northeast of Mihoub suburb, in Medea province.
The recent earthquake is the most powerful in the recent months, as it reached 5.3 degrees on the Richter scale, after the two earthquakes of April 10 and May 16 recording 5 and 3.9 degrees on the Richter scale.
On the subject, the General Manager of the Centre for Research in Astronomy, Astrophysics and Geophysics “CRAAG”, Abdelkrim Yelles, told Echorouk on Sunday that the earthquake of “Mihoub” region, is a natural phenomenon, and its strength reached 5.3 degrees on the Richter scale, and is classified in the moderate earthquakes box, as Medea previously noticed several earthquakes with this magnitude.
“Algeria also knew earthquakes with this magnitude in the areas of Hammam Melouane in Blida and Ain Azal in Setif, and in Bejaia”.
“Algeria is vulnerable to earthquakes because it contains mountainous areas in the north, including the hills and Atlantic chains, and the seismic phenomenon in Algeria reached all the country, in the east to the west, and central provinces.”
“Mihoub earthquake is considered a normal earthquake activity. We register three earthquakes every day across the various provinces of the country, at a rate of 100 earthquakes a month, and sometimes they are centred in a certain area as a result of a large leak of energy.”
“Aftershocks are a natural phenomenon following the original quake. After last night earthquake, we have registered about 10 aftershocks in the same area, with a magnitude that ranged between 2.7 and 4.4 degrees on the Richter scale.”
“Warm atmosphere that was recently recorded and the wind have no relationship with the occurrence of earthquakes.”
