“Al Azhar” describes Haifa as ‘Indecent and immoral’

The famous Lebanese artist Haifa Wahbe is often the target of criticism since the start of her art career. Most recently Muslim scholars from Al Azhar Mosque in Cairo described Haifa as “immoral and indecent.”

  • The Muslim Scholars were referring to Haifa’s scenes in her latest film “Dokan Shahateh” (Shahateh’s Supermarket).  In the film Haifa danced in front of ‘Al Hussein’ Mosque in Cairo, insulting the scholars.
  • Controversial director Khaled Yousif defended Haifa. “The Scholars at Al Azhar are accusing people of wrong doing before watching the film,” said Yousif During the program “90 Minutes,” which is aired on the Egyptian television channel, Yousif denied the accusations that Haifa dances in front of Al Hussein Mosque in the movie.
  • Yousif said that Haifa enters a Mosque wearing a proper Muslim head cover, ‘Hijab,’ during the film.
