“I support Bouteflika,†says Zeroual’s son

Algerian former President’s son Abdelkarim Zeroual said he attended a campaign gathering of candidate Abdelaziz Bouteflika to show his support for the incumbent president who is vying for a third mandate at the helm of the nation .

Abdelkarim Zeroual was sitting in the first row to listen to Bouteflika’s campaign speech. He was wearing a scarf adorned with the president candidate’s picture.

Speaking about his father’s position, he said he respects personal freedom and does not intervene in his family’s personal matters.

“He taught us democracy and he is a real democratic man,” he added.

He believes that his father has already expressed his position on the presidential elections. “The former generation did its job and the future is for the young.”

In his gathering as part of the ongoing electoral campaign, Bouteflika hailed Liamine Zeroual, saying he “had shouldered the responsibility of being president before me.”

Earlier, Algerian sports minister Hachemi Djiar had spoken about “ a friendly relationship” between Abdelkarim Zeroual and Bouteflika.
