“We will keep playing until last breath,” says Algeria’s football player Matmour

Algeria’s football player Karim Matmour believes his team is about to qualify to the World Cup as it is capable of playing against any team in the world whatever its strength. “Even if some players are injured, I tell everyone we have solutions and our chances to win the November 14 match against Egypt will not be shaken,” he told Echorouk in an interview.

  •
  • Can the Algerian team win the match in Cairo?
  •
  • We will play to win the match as professionalism taught us to strike so that the adversary can not score goals.
  •
  •
  • Logical conditions suggest the opposite as the Algerian players will be under the Egyptian fans’ pressure and the persistence of their players?
  •
  • Logic also says we are the most persisting team. Speaking about the fans does not make sense for professional players. I respect the Egyptian players as I watched them playing a good game. We will play against 11 players and not 80,000 fans.

  •
  •
  • You are not following the fierce media campaign against the team?
  •
  • I have heard some news but I do not care about that. I know that journalists play their game as it is their job but they can not force me to play with them.
  •
  • Some people say Algeria won the match against Egypt in the stadium of Blida thanks to fans.
  •
  • I can not deny the fans’ role but people think that fans can make their team win all the time. That’s wrong. I am not saying pressure is useless but it will not have an impact on the match result at all.

  •
  • How do you compare living in France to that in Germany?
  •
  • The difference is big of course. Thanks God, I am living a quit life in a elegant villa. My club offered me two cars. I feel the real professionalism. The only thing I miss is family and the Algerian people.
  •
  • Do you often go to France? When do you visit Algeria for any reason but game?
  •
  • I am supposed to visit the area of Tiaret (west of Algiers) in late December. I hope it will be a celebrating visit for qualification to the World Cup.
  •
  • Have you ever visited Egypt?
  •
  • No. It will be my first visit there for the match. If we qualify and celebrated there, I will keep a nice souvenir from Egypt.
  •
  • Do you promise to score goals in Cairo?
  •
  • I promise to do my best and I will paly the match as if it is the last game I play in my life. God only knows about the future.
