Algeria is leading a diplomatic campaign and consultations in order to convince African countries to reject Israel’s adoption as an observer at the African Union.

Israel’s position was expressed by the words of its Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, a few days ago, when he emphasized that he sensed an initial acceptance by some African leaders to receive Israel in the African bodies.

This position is in his view an important step and a win-win situation.

On Wednesday, the first session of the meetings of the African Union’s Executive Council, in Rwanda capital, Kigali, before the official launch of the African summit is scheduled next Sunday, which raised considerable controversy around the goal of Israel’s desire to nail the position of an observer in the African headquarters. A demand that was rejected by Algeria, and its position was issued on the lips of the diplomatic representative, Ramtane Lamamra, a few days ago, when he emphasized that Algeria will not change its position in this regard, in terms of absolute support for the Palestinian cause, and that this attitude is shared by several African and Arab countries that reject the existence of the Zionist entity in the African bodies and headquarters.

Algeria may lead several consultations with African countries to persuade them of rejecting this demand, as it ensures the position of major countries of the African allies, like Nigeria and South Africa and even Sudan, which have long been the focus of anti-imperialism.

As a preliminary and official attitude, the Sudanese Foreign Minister, Ibrahim Ghandour, said that some African states cannot ask Israel to join the African Union’s membership because it out of the question legally, and it is just a negotiable media consumption only, because the agreements to establish this body since it was organized before it becomes a Union in Sirte, Libya summit, do not allow the possibility of the entry of members outside the African continent.

Israel flexes its muscles to achieve its demand of support that it reaped in the last leg, which led the Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, to Ethiopia during his participation in a mini regional summit on security and counter-terrorism in Uganda with the heads of State and Government of Kenya, Rwanda, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Zambia, Malawi, during which it got a pledge from them to “accept the State of Israel as a controller of the African Union.
