Ahmed Attaf: Algeria To Continue Supporting Lebanon

Algeria will remain firmly standing by Lebanon’s side at its critical historical stage, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, said, Sunday in Beirut.

In a press statement following President Joseph Aoun’s reception, the minister explained that Lebanon is experiencing a delicate phase in its history. It is working to strengthen its institutions, revive its economy, and establish security. He added that in all these phases “Algeria can only stand firmly by Lebanon’s side.”

Attaf indicated that he conveyed to the Lebanese President a written message addressed to him by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, through which he expressed his fraternal greetings and renewed his congratulations on his election as President of the Lebanese Republic and wished him all the best in performing his lofty duties, noting that this mission with which he was entrusted comes within the framework of “Algeria’s steadfast support for Lebanon in good and bad times”.

The minister added that he discussed bilateral relations with the Lebanese president and agreed on reactivating cooperation and giving it new momentum and broader content.

They also discussed Algeria’s membership in the UN Security Council and its readiness to accompany Lebanon in everything related to the Lebanese file within the Council.

“The upcoming Arab meetings were also discussed,” Attaf said, stressing that the two sides agreed on the necessity of close coordination and sustainable and regular consultation between Algeria and Lebanon to contribute to the success of these events.”

President Joseph Aoun, in turn, expressed his appreciation for Algeria’s continued solidarity. He also thanked Tebboune for his invitation to visit Algeria and reaffirmed Lebanon’s commitment to strengthening ties with Algeria across all sectors.
