Ferhat Mhenni and Lounis Ait Menguelet

The famous Algerian singer and songwriter, Lounis Ait Menguellet, quit his legendary silence. He rightfully responded to some recent press and social network attacks of which he was the target together with fellow renowned singer Idir following the brief encounter they had with Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal, at a ceremony held earlier this week in Algiers by the National Copy rights’ Preservation Office (ONDA).

Here’s the content of Lounis Ait Menguellet’s strongly-worded message sent to local media outlets:

“My following message is twofold. My first goal is, of course, to thank all those fans who have bestowed upon me the honor to shore up our cause in the aftermath of the unjustified and hateful campaign of which Idir and I were the targets. I testify to you my deep and sincere gratitude to this effect”.

“My second goal is to extend to these well-meaning people my apologies for having forced them to steep to the low level of these lambasting fanatics that a friend described as “ambush snipers” (“Aseggad,s iyimi” in the Tamaghizt language), a term that fits perfectly with the cowardice of this sort of individuals who spend their sad life aiming at the wrong targets by implicitly referring in this connection to low-down extremist Ferhat Mehenni and his senseless “MAK” henchmen. This is my dear friends what I wanted to write, while renewing to you my warmest thanks and my humblest apologies.”
