Al Akhdar Al Ibrahimi to be appointed “Chairman of the Algerian Constitutional Councilâ€
Algiers-President Abdelaziz Bouteflika decided to appoint former FM Al Akhdar Al Ibrahimi at the head of the Constitutional Council, succeeding Boualem Bessayeh whose term expired Monday, according to Article 164 of the Constitution, which states the appointment of the chairman of the CC for one term, after the exclusion of the experience of returning to the extension of the presidency, which was previously applied in the era of the former CC president Assaid Bou Echair, Echorouk several identical sources said.
The former UN diplomat is expected to be appointed at the head of the first constitutional institution in Algeria on the coming days, under the presidential decree waiting to be ratified by the President Abdelaziz Bouteflika.
Same sources added that the preparations are under way to put the last procedures to receive the newcomer to Al Biar Palace, including the creation of a new office.
Echorouk sources asserted that the period of delay is normal, arguing that it is not a violation of the constitutional provisions, in addition to the absence “urgent and exceptional circumstances” in the agenda of the first regulatory body to consider the extent of conformity with the constitution.
Echorouk sources explained that the selection of the former Algerian diplomat, among the political and diplomatic figures including the head of the National Assembly Abdelkader Ben Salah and the Algerian ambassador to Paris Missoum Sabi, for several factors, most notable the experience of this man in diplomatic work at both local and international levels, aiming to give more momentum and effectiveness to the constitutional body in light of the political reform projects that are expected to be established in the coming period.
