Al-Jazeera Refuses To Publish An Online Documentary On Reggane Nuclear Testing At The French Request
,France politically recognized its crimes that were committed in the Algerian Sahara, as regards nuclear explosions and testing that were carried out in each of the states of Tamanrasset and Adrar in the far south, Lawyer and Human Rights Activist, Professor Fatima Ben Brahem, said.
This came during the National Forum on French Nuclear Bombings in the Algerian Sahara, and their negative effects on humans and the environment in Illizi.
Minister of the Mujahideen (war veterans), Tayeb Zitouni, said, on the occasion of the 57th memory of Reggane nuclear explosions, on February, 13, 1960.
Lawyer Ben Brahem, which is in charge of legal affairs of the nuclear bombings file, said: “Dialogue of French politicians with their Algerian counterparts, on the nuclear file bombings of the Algerian Sahara, is a political recognition of the French crimes”.
Ben Brahem and explained that it had entered into this file to the halls of justice since 2001, as France was denied completely these crimes, but now they recognize it politically, and the Minister of the Mujahideen was assigned to take care of this file instead of the Foreign Minister, something which carries many connotations.
“French President in 2008 committed a crime against the law, when he announced the closure of the Algerian Archive on the nuclear issue, which proves bad faith of the French party, although things were going well from 2001 until 2008”.
In her lecture, the human rights activist revealed that “Al Jazeera” TV channel, filmed a documentary on the French nuclear testing in the Algerian Sahara, so that it equipped a journalist who did the worke, with all the information and files of the Algerians, in addition to obtaining the testimonies of eye witnesses, whether they are victims or who have lived through this tragedy.
“This documentary caused a large controversy in the French media, especially the government, but the channel’s management did not put this documentary on its website, as being the practice in the rest of the documentaries, because it has contacts with the reporter. I discovered that French administration had contacts with the channels management, and France which asked Al Jazeera to avoid publishing the documentary in its website, and wait to get out honorably from the case. Al Jazeera should know that France will recognize all its crimes that are related to the nuclear explosions, sooner or later”.
