The National Organization of Pupils’ Parents launched its campaign once again to replace French language by English in schools and univertsities.

This comes as Algerian education minister Nouria Benghebrit decided to apply French on scientific subjects in high schools.

The Organization launched a campaign on Facebook. It has collected 9,500 signatures out of 10,000 required signatures to submit a letter to Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal.

Its head Ali Benzina said the campaign aims at replacing French by English.

« Our aim is to submit a letter signed by 10,000 people to the Prime Minister before the next cabinet meeting. We do not want to ban French but to make it optional along with English. Pupils will have the choice between the two languages, » he told Echorouk.

He added that his organization will sue the education ministry and called for stopping the second generation reforms starting from the next school year.

« The second generation reforms will have negative repecussions on the education system as teachers did not have any serious training, » he said.
