Algeria: A Third Purge Campaign Targeting “remnants” Of Bouteflika Era Officials

The Presidency of the Republic has launched its third campaign of dismissals and the termination of duties of officials dating to the Bouteflika era. Some 15 new presidential decrees have been issued, in addition to the dismissal of Minister of Justice Souleiman Brahimi and the Secretary General of the Ministry, Samir Bourhail.
To this effect, the latest publication of the Official Gazette (Issue No. 45), pointed to the sacking of the director of the National Institute for Information and Communication Technologies Djamel Khafif in addition to the deputy directors of the Ministry of Trade, Ahmed Rachid, and the Deputy Director of Market Control, Ahmed Mokrani.
Two presidential decrees also spoke of the nomination of two officials of the Ministry of Tourism and Handicraft, namely Mohamed Karim Chikhi as deputy director of capacity assessment of sector institutions, in addition to Mohamed Lamine Gharbi as deputy director of tourism.
Another presidential decree ended the duties of Arab Khairi as director of the National School of Hotel and Tourism and sent him to retire at his request, in addition to ending the functions of the Director of Tourism in the of western province of Tlemcen Mourad Bachiri and sent him to retirement.
The duties of the Board of Accounting were extended by three presidential decrees. The first was the termination of the functions of Abdel Karim Oheib as the head of the Accounting Council branch and his ensuing retirement. In replacement, Malika Bourbous was appointed as the chairperson of the Accounting Council.
The decree included appointments to the Ministry of Commerce, including Khaled Bouchlagham as General Manager of Foreign Trade, Kamel Adouche as trade Inspector, Ahmed Rashid as General Manager of Experimental and Analytical Laboratories, and Ahmed Mokrani as Director of Markets, Business and Standardized Trades.
In another appointment at the Algerian Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Wahiba Soudani was nominated as its general manager.
A decree of appointment was also issued by the Ministry of Tourism and Handicraft, including Mohamed Karim Chikhi as Director of the Quality Scheme for Tourism and Control, as well as Mohamed Lamine Gharbi, Director of Tourism Investment, and Rabie Muftcha.
The functions of the President of the Council of the National Economic and Social Council was allotted to Nadhira Rahal, in addition to the assignment of a senior executive in charge of the internal security of the institution of the Administrative and Technical Secretariat of the National Economic and Social Council.
The Presidency of the Republic also announced on Wednesday the termination of the duties of the atomic energy governor Abderrazak Roumki, and thus Abdelhamid Mellah who now becomes the new governor of the Atomic Energy Agency. The Presidency appointed Houari Rahali as Acting Director-General of the National Bank of Algeria (BNA), and also appointed Rachid Belaid as Acting Director-General of the Local Development Bank (BDL).
