Algeria and Morocco work to solve borders problem, says minister

Algerian industry minister Abdelhamid Temmar said Sunday the Algerian and Moroccan governments are expected to work together to settle the closed borders problem.

  • “The closed borders issue between Algeria and Morocco is under examination by both governments,” Temmar told a news conference in Algiers on the sidelines of a Maghrebin meeting of businessmen.
  • He added that the solution of the Western Sahara issue is in the hand of the United Nations and businessmen are the decision makers in the Arab Maghreb, in response to the UN representative.
  • He called for reinforcing commercial ties between the Arab Maghreb and adopting projects of tangible content.
  • “A Maghrebin bank will be created to fund investment projects in the Arab Maghreb countries and provide them with financial liquidity,” said the minister.
  • “This agreement between Maghrebin businessmen can pave the way to other meetings between officials in the Arab Maghreb. That would lead to hold the summit of the Arab Maghreb leaders,” he added.
  • Chief of businessmen’ Maghrebin union stressed the necessity of opening borders between all the Arab Maghreb countries.
  • “Closed borders must be opened to allow Maghrebin businessmen to benefit from advantages in all the countries like making business and exchanging investments,” he added.
