Algeria apologizes to reservists

Algerian Prime Minister Ahmed Ouyahia said the government is committed to fulfilling the pending requests of reservists who took part in the war against terror during the national tragedy of the 90's.

  • “We have failed in our obligations toward this category of Algerians. It is not a shame to say that because the national service law did not take in consideration the situation of the country in the 1990’s when it was promulgated,” Ouyahia told PMs.
  • “The State will apologize to this category of Algerians. We promise to resolve their problems within the next few months because it is unbelievable that the law makes the difference between an Algerian and another,” he added.
  • He also said the State does not distinguish between those who scarified for it whatever their positions either in the army or out of it.
  • The prime minister pledged to implement all the provisions of the Charter for Peace and National Reconciliation. “The government has given strict instructions to authorities involved in the Charter to lift hurdles to ensure the full implementation of the law.”
  • Judicial documents translation is an irreversible decision
  • Ahmed Ouyahia slammed deputies who had criticised the government over the decision to impose the translation of judicial documents into Arabic.
  • “It is you who approved the law on judicial documents translation. The decision is irreversible,” he said.
  • “There are precisions about this issue which must be done by the justice ministry. We must not raise fears among people over this because not all the documents are involved,” he added.
