Algeria bans 100 air trips to Europe and Asia

Algiers’ international airport Houari Boumediene in coordination with airliners banned all scheduled trips to Europe for Sunday because of volcanic ash from Iceland. A trip of Aigle Azur to the French city of Toulouse and additional trips of Air Algerie to Roma and Barcelona are still opened.

• An official at the airport said more than 100 trips were scheduled in coordination with airliners to Europe expect those to Roma and Barcelona. “Additional trips to those open airports were scheduled in coordination with Air Algerie and to Toulouse in coordination with Aigle Azur.”

• Chief of Air Algerie trip Yaala Idriss said additional trips were scheduled all day long on Sunday to Roma to transport passengers after their trips were banned. “We scheduled additional trips to the airport of Marseille but we were surprised that it was closed. Because of that, we scheduled additional trips to Roma. Trips to Beijing and some Asian countries were banned because of the volcano.”

• General chief of scheduling in Houari Boumediene airport told Echorouk in the beginning 19 trips scheduled on Friday to Europe were banned. Many European airports informed Algiers that they closed their air domain because of the volcano ash.

• “As things got worse, we had to ban 30 trips to Europe’s airports on Saturday. We were surprised that the airport of Marseille was closed on Sunday. This airport was the last solution for those who wanted to go to France.
