Algeria: Cabinet meeting on criminalisation removal from management
Algeria’s Prime Minister Ahmed Ouyahia
Algeria’s Prime Minister Ahmed Ouyahia convened a cabinet meeting to discuss about a draft bill to remove criminalisation from management act.
- The meeting is expected to be held on Wednesday upon request from President Bouteflika in an attempt to en fears among State’s executives of judicial prosecutions.
- Governmental sources say the draft bill separates between error committed in management and crime and corruption-related acts.
- According to the new text, corruption, embezzlement and theft are unquestionable crimes. The criminalisation of management tarnished Algeria’s image and had negative consequences on the national economy.
- Earlier on February 3rd, President Bouteflika convened a cabinet meeting to order criminalisation removal from management. This came following reports about negative results and delays in projects due to fears among executives of criminalisation.
- Experts believe that management criminalisation was a pretext to corruption. They consider it as a “political diversion” which caused prison sentences to many executives.
- The cabinet meeting comes as a seminar was held by the justice ministry to discuss about management criminalisation. It came up with a call to set up financial courts.
