Algeria counts 23 new cases of swine flu

The services of the Ministry of health and Hospitals’ Reforms in charge of controlling the spread of swine flu “AH1 N1” said that Algeria counts 23 new cases last week (17 November), in Algiers, Tizi Ouzou, east of Algiers, and Ain Temouchent, west of Algiers, following announced tests by Pasteur Institute in Algiers, Blida and Medea, west of Algiers and Tindouf.

  • The same services said that the cases of swine flu rose in Algeria and that among the leaders which led to the spread of cases is the presence of foreigners, including the Chinese, as six cases among them were registered in Blida, east of Algiers, working in a construction institution out of 30 suspected cases in the region.
  •
  • Dr. Omrane, in charge of the file at the Ministry of Health said on the sidelines of the days of “Swine flu” as it is everyone’s concern; “The number of cases in Algeria rises to 157 in the present time. Algeria sent a demand for the acquisition of 20 million doses”.
  •
  • However, it seems, according to preliminary information that Algeria could only access to 900.000 doses at the beginning of December, confirming that the good follow-up by the medical teams to detect the cases of AH1N1 among the population could stop the spread of swine flu, as well as the awareness campaigns and media sources, which remain the most affective ways to prevent swine flu pandemic.
