Algeria counts 29 cases of swine flu

The reference laboratory of swine flu at Pasteur Institute registered two new cases of H1N1, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 29 in Algeria, despite the authorities’ installation of 55 thermal cameras in the various ports, airports and border crossings.

  • A statement by the Ministry of Health and Population confirmed Tuesday that the reference laboratory Pasteur proved infection of a 9 year-old Algerian girl  and a lady in her fifties with H1N1 virus, following suspected infection with the pandemic as soon as they arrived at Tindouf airport, south of Algeria, from Spain. They have been confined in the local hospital where they are receiving the necessary treatment.
  • The total number of swine flu cases rise to 29 confirmed cases out of 1000 suspected cases that were recently registered.
  •
  • The Ministry of Health and Population opened a pandemic investigation, following registration of the new cases, among the families and relatives of the infected people, using medical control and in-depth laboratory analysis in order to ensure they are free from the virus, as well as among the passengers who accompanied them during the flight on board  the plane, in coordination with the  border control services.
  • Observers versed in  health matters, noticed a rapid rise in the cases of swine flu in Algeria, despite the fact that the Algerian authorities allocated over 80 billion dinars, 16 million protective masks, over 6.5 million Tami flu packs and 100.000 Saiflu packs that are locally produced, as well as the  installation of 55 thermal cameras in the various ports and airports and border posts in order to detect all the cases as soon as they arrive from abroad, as the majority of the swine flu cases come from Europe and USA.
