Algeria detects second A/H1N1 flu case

Algerian Health Ministry on Sunday evening confirmed the second case of influenza A/H1N1 in the Northern African country, the state APS news agency reported.

  • One daughter of the Algerian woman arriving from the United States, who has been confirmed as the first case in Algeria Saturday, was diagnosed with A/H1N1 flu after undergoing tests, the reported quoted a statement of the ministry as saying.
  • Travelling with her two daughters, the woman arrived in Algeria on Tuesday on a Lufthansa flight from Miami via Frankfurt. 
  •  The Health Ministry has said Algeria has taken precautious measures to prevent the spread of the epidemic, advising the people to wash their hands frequently and not to visit the infected.
  • According to the latest tally by the World Health Organization (WHO), 95 countries and regions have officially reported at least 44,287 cases of A/H1N1 influenza infection, including 180 deaths.
