Algeria-Egypt: Bouteflika will make no official statement

Algeria’s President Abdelaziz Bouteflika is not expected to make any statement about the crisis with Egypt, Algerian ambassador to Cairo said on Sunday.

• “Algeria will not take any initiative of official apology,” Abdelkader Hadjar told an Egyptian newspaper.

• “I have never heard about a mediation initiated by the Arab League between Egypt and Algeria to solve the crisis,” he added.
•  
• Egypt is accusing Algerians of attacking its fans following Wednesday’s World Cup play-off in Sudan.
•  
• “I did not hold any meeting with the Secretary General of the Arab League Amr Moussa about that. Algerian officials may have been directly contacted,” said Hadjar.

• He added that any mediation must go through him in his capacity of permanent representative at the Arab League.
•  
• “It is out of the question to initiate a mediation to resolve the conflict between the two countries. The situation is getting worse.”
