Algeria foils hard currency smuggling attempt

Algeria’s customs foiled an attempt to smuggle more than 278,000 euros to Dubai in the province of Tebessa (east of Algiers), Echorouk has learnt.

  • A car with three men was ambushed on the national road No 82 in the area of Kouif in Tebessa. The gendarmes inspected it and found the money wrapped in a corner. The driver and his companions were introduced to court.

  • This case is considered as the biggest money smuggling attempt across Tebessa during this year. Many Asian, European and Gulf countries is willing to receive foreign currency legally or illegally.

  • The seized money was going to be smuggled to Dubai. Specialised networks in west, east and south of Algiers were mobilised to this operation.

  • Two weeks ago, the Gendarmerie forces foiled an attempt to smuggle 30 million centimes in Tebessa.
  •  
  • The last season was marked by the biggest smuggling operation. Five men were carrying 1 million euros to Dubai across Tunisia.
