Algeria, France Sign Criminal Extradition Agreement

Criminals’ Extradition Agreement between Algeria and France reflects the common will to promote relationships on an equal basis, Justice Minister, Tayeb Louh, said on Sunday.

“It comes within the framework of the Algiers Declaration on Friendship and Cooperation on December 19, 2012”.

“There is an important Algerian community residing in France, and it constitutes a real bridge between Algeria and France. The fight against organized crime, in particular, terrorism, requires international solidarity for stability, and the conduct of democracies in the long term. The Convention was in line with the principles of human rights”.

A new cooperation agreement was signed Sunday between Algeria and France concerning the extradition of criminals between the two countries.

The agreement was signed by Justice Minister, Tayeb Louh and his French counterpart, Nicole Belloubet.

The signing of this agreement, according to a statement of the Justice Ministry, which copy is available to Echorouk, is a renewal of cooperation between Algeria and France, especially after the application of the new Convention on Judicial Cooperation in Criminal Matters last May.

“The agreement would allow for a smooth flow of exchanges and facilitation of some extradition requests while ensuring respect for the basic principles of the two countries”, as France considers Algeria a “strategic partner” with regard to exchanges in the field of combating terrorism, and the civil part as well.
