Algeria Gendarmerie resolved to continue fighting terrorism

Commander of Algeria’s National Gendarmerie said the latest massacre perpetrated in eastern Algiers will not discourage his soldiers, renewing their commitment to counter terrorism.

  • “The so called the Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat (GSPC) is living a difficult situation but it is still able to hurt people. That needs vigilance and intelligence work,” Lieutenant Ahmed Boustila said in an official ceremony on Wednesday.
  • Earlier last week, terrorists ambushed a military convoy at Bordj Bou Arreridj (southeast of Algiers) killing at least 18 policemen.
  • More than 186 officers graduated from the Gendarmerie High School on Wednesday including 17 females after three years of training. They will be assigned to accomplish various missions. Of them, two come from the West Sahara and Mauritania.
  • Head of the school Colonel Mohamed Si Hanin stressed the necessity of human means in training to “modernise the Gendarmerie and achieve efficiency.”
  • He urged the graduates to not use force only to protect people and implement the law.
